As a team leader for Valuations NSW (formerly NSW Valuer General’s Department) Murray oversaw the Shoalhaven General Valuation, acted as expert witness in the Land and Environment Court, and provided Statutory Valuations of all categories of land under the Local Government Act 1993. He was routinely contracted by various Councils and State Government Authorities to assess compulsory acquisition compensation under the Land Acquisition (Just Terms Compensation) Act 1991 and the Roads Act 1993, and still is to this day.
Moving into private practice as a Real Estate Sales Associate, Murray carried out mortgage valuations as a Panel Valuer for major banks and non-bank lenders, while selling residential, commercial, and industrial properties in the Wollongong and Shellharbour Local Council areas, before committing to valuing full time.
Currently Walsh & Monaghan’s longest serving Director, having signed on in 2001, Murray is known for his precise approach to dealing with complex issues, and his thorough valuation reporting, practically applied from Sydney to Batemans Bay and up to the Southern Highlands over 30 years.
He has maintained exceptional working relationships with key clients including local city councils, local and state departments including TransportNSW, major bank and non-bank lenders, and an extensive network via memberships with multi-industry business groups.
Murray has conducted commercial determinations for the Valuer General for commercial property acquisitions as part of the WestConnex Project as well as the Sydney Light Rail Project. As well, he regularly undertakes objection determinations for the Valuer General for all types of property within the Sydney Basin.
Outside the work world, Murray can be found on the links with his sons, or on the water (with and without a fishing rod!)
Walsh & Monaghan acknowledges the traditional custodians of the lands upon which our business has operated for the past 100 years. We offer our respect to those who currently care for these lands, we recognise and appreciate the work of past custodians who have so diligently cared for these countries, and we look forward to the next generation of custodians who have learnt this skill from their ancestors. We vow to the people of the Eroa, Yuin, Dharawal, Djiringanj, Thaua and Gundungurra nations, to respect and care for these lands as they themselves do.
